Hi, I'm Amanda!
I design learning experiences that solve real-world problems.
After 15 years as a public school educator, I began looking for new opportunities to use my professional expertise to make an impact on the world. My goal is to use my skills in an education-adjacent, mission-driven organization to drive innovation and transformation of the field.
Check out some of my work below!
Technology Challenge-Harrison Public Schools
This document was created using Google Slides and housed in Canvas LMS to provide K-12 teachers with asynchronous training on the Harrison School District's preferred technology platforms for each grade band. Clicking anywhere on the home screen will bring the learner to a menu of self-paced learning options based on the grade level taught. Some key design considerations:
Wide variance in comfort with technology among teachers prompted the decision to provide very explicit instructions ("click here" and "watch video instructions here") and Choose-your-own-adventure style learning paths.
Low familiarity with the Canvas LMS by K-6 teachers drove the decision to create a visually contained document with direct links to Canvas assignments rather than using the full Canvas course creator.
Where possible, preference was given to using curated video resources from the tech platforms themselves (Seesaw, Google Classroom, and Canvas LMS) to build familiarity with their branding and present them in their own terms.
Virtual Instructor-Led Training
This VILT was created under contract for the Ozark Unlimited Resources Cooperative in 2020. The first 10 slides (of 34) are shared with permission below. Some key design considerations:
This VILT was designed as a full-day training, providing preschool through 2nd grade teachers with 6 hours of professional development credit by learning about ways to integrate technology in their classrooms to support foundational reading skills in a developmentally appropriate way.
The slides are text-heavy as they were sent to participants as a PDF for future reference.
Participant interaction was built into this training at a rate of every 10-15 minutes in the form of online activities or breakout room discussions.
An excerpt from the facilitator guide is included below.
